Last night I remarked that hardly anyone was bringing in any food for the food drive and Mr. Wonderful came up with a couple of great ideas!! For the rest of the month of July:
- anyone who brings in two cans of food will save 10% on all yarn,
- anyone who brings in 5 cans of food – will save 15%,
- AND…..anyone who brings in three jars of peanut butter will save 20%!
Please take a minute to go to the CAFB blog and read about some of the people here in Austin who are just scraping by….there is a story about a family who often has to choose between putting gas in their car to go to work or buying groceries. The food bank does not just feed the men you see standing on the corners with cardboard signs or the people I watch walking up and down South Congress all day long – last year 41% of the food bank clients were children. That’s why the peanut butter is so important – a peanut butter sandwich is always a good thing but think about how good it must taste when you haven’t had anything to eat since yesterday. (Be extra nice and buy some jelly to go with it!)
One other thing – I’ve always been very happy to let people use my ballwinder and I never say anything about people walking in, winding yarn with price tags from other stores and then leaving without buying anyting – but that’s going to stop. From now on, anyone who wants to use the ballwinder to wind yarn that was not purchased here must make a donation to the Food Bank Cash Jar.
The deadline for the knitted and crocheted food is the 27th – we’re having another food workshop Thursday night (the 21st) for those of you who want to make something but the patterns have you stumped! And I have 4 copies of Tasty Crochet in stock!
First prize for the contest will be worth $100! Second Prize = $50 and Third prize = $25!!!
